Aikido is a traditional Japanese martial art which teaches mental and physical discipline. Those who study it learn to blend with an opponent’s energy (not block or collide with it), to redirect that energy (not oppose it), and to lead the opponent to the ground peacefully (not break him or her).
This art is especially beneficial for women or people who are small-framed. It teaches the use of technique, strategy, and skill instead of strength and aggression to gain control of a hostile situation.
Aikido training can benefit you by teaching you how to protect yourself and how to protect those around you. Other benefits include physical and mental conditioning, but above all else, Aikido is fun to practice!
